Barry Dominey

Barry (21 October 1955 – 22 March 2005) started at Ambrose Fleming Comprehensive School in the same year group as Roger Gibbins, and they played regularly in the same school team with John Termine (Northampton Town Reserves) and Mickey Lynch (Clapton, Enfield).

All four also played for Lee Valley F C under the guidance and management of Horace Charles, who had originated from Aruba where he played in the National team before moving to North London to work and raise a family. He lived in Bradley Road, near Albany Park and Enfield Lock Station.

In this school team photo above (circa 1970), John Termine and Mickey Lynch were “missing” … team members are:

Barry played 2 games for Ambrose Fleming Reserves in 1972 at the age of 16 whilst being a regular player for Enfield Working Men’s Club FC. He then joined Colchester United in September 1973 and made his first team debut as a substitute against Brentford on 21st January 1977. He scored his first goal in a League Cup 4th Round replay against Southampton at the Dell to take Colchester through to the quarter-finals.

Barry made 80 appearances and scored 5 goals … not bad for a defender! His final game was on 21st January 1977 losing 1-0 at home to Cambridge United. He was released from contract in April 1977 and played in non-league football for Yeovil and Dorchester.
